📝 viroo-platform-release-2.5

VIROO Platform

Major improvements in VIROO Cloud Architecture and backend have been implemented:

  • AWS Web Application Firewall (zero trust)
  • AWS Elastic Load Balancing (scalability)
  • AWS Elastic Container Service (scalability, orchestration, customization…)
  • Continuous integration and deployments fully integrated (Azure to AWS ECR/EC2)

VIROO backend components have been updated (Content, Logging, VIVOX):

  • VIROO Content Update and new AWS S3 metadata handling process ensures platform robustness
  • VIROO Session module is now deployed as an independent AWS ECS container
  • Unity projects and packages updated to Unity 2022 LTS
  • VIROO Identity module includes a new set of attributes improving organizations and users service experience and proper segmentation
  • Enhanced integration of VIROO Identity with VIROO Networking and VIROO Session modules
  • Company-wide attributes now shared among platform components, increasing security and service granularity
  • VIROO Networking: WebSockets transport added to replace the previous low-level binary protocol — more secure and friendly for restricted networks
  • VIROO Logging: new log detail and monitoring capabilities; extended identity management changes now trackable from VIROO Logging Service
  • VIROO Content downloading process: adjusted number of calls, volumes, and metadata
  • Localization improvements: Resx file usage

VIROO Players

Our VIROO’s Unity modules (runtime player) have been upgraded, allowing compilation for standalone Android headsets.
This is the first milestone in the VIROO standalone race.

All VIROO Players

  • Organizations’ public session list now available
  • You can now choose a session to join directly from the list (no need to copy/paste identifiers)
  • Added button for session list refresh
  • Added content ordering utility to session creation process
  • Added content list filter for enhanced session setup
  • UX improvements to launching and stopping session buttons
  • Multi-language terminology updated, improving user experience

VIROO Single Player

  • Avatar default nicknames now directly obtained from VIROO Identity module

VIROO Cave Player

  • Native Quad Buffered Stereo support: developed native OpenGL application running parallel to Unity runtime player, providing native stereoscopic support
  • SingleEquipment multidisplay: prepared VIROO to support VR CAVE systems with a single equipment (in addition to multi-GPU clusters); with 4 projection systems, a full CAVE can be built using one device

VIROO Studio

  • Incorporation of XR Interaction Toolkit: included in VIROO Interaction System
    • Grab interactions now handled with XRI components
    • In version 2.5, both systems (new and old VIROO Grabbers/Grabbables) work in parallel
    • Old Grab components marked as obsolete and will be removed in future versions
  • Project Validation window upgraded with rules for automatic conversion of old components
  • Added Identifier field to scenes metadata to avoid Unity scene name collisions
  • Scene names are no longer used for VIROO scene identification
  • VIROO Lab Scene updated to demonstrate new improvements
